How I'm Resetting My Gut Health (and Why You Might Need To, Too)

This year, my priority is simple: to feel my best. To feel stronger, healthier and more energised than I have in a long time. And I’m starting with my gut.

Earlier this year, I had two small procedures done that affected my digestive system more than I expected. In the weeks following, I began experiencing symptoms I’d never dealt with before, rashes, new food intolerances, constant bloating and sluggish digestion.

I felt like I’d lost all the progress I’d made with my gut health over the past few years. My cravings changed, my energy dipped, and I even noticed weight gain in places I hadn’t before. It honestly felt like I was back at square one.

And if you’ve ever felt that way too, like your body is suddenly working against you, I want you to know you’re not alone.

Gut health is foundational to our overall wellness. It affects everything from our energy and immunity to hormones, mental health, skin and sleep. When our gut is out of balance, nothing else quite feels right.

So I’m taking action. I’m resetting, not from a place of punishment or pressure, but from a place of real care for my body. I want to share exactly how I’m doing it in case you’re on a similar path or want to feel better in your own body too.

Signs Your Gut Might Need a Reset

You don’t need a diagnosis to start paying attention. These are some common signs your gut might be under stress:

  • Bloating or digestive discomfort after eating

  • New food intolerances or sensitivities

  • Fatigue or brain fog

  • Rashes or changes in skin

  • Unexplained weight gain or cravings

  • Low mood or anxiety

5 Steps I'm Taking to Support My Gut

1. Prioritising Whole Foods Over Processed Ones

I’m keeping my meals colourful, simple and full of fibre. Think: seasonal vegetables, high-quality protein, healthy fats like olive oil, fermented foods and as much variety as possible. According to a study published in Nature, eating 30+ different plant foods a week can significantly improve gut microbiome diversity.

2. Keeping a Food Diary to Identify Triggers

Since my symptoms started, I’ve been tracking what I eat and how I feel. I’m temporarily cutting out common trigger foods like dairy, refined sugar and certain grains, then slowly reintroducing them to observe how my body responds. It’s helping me rebuild trust with my body, one step at a time.

3. Bringing in Gut-Supporting Supplements

I’ve added a few supportive supplements to my routine, including a high-quality probiotic and L-glutamine which is known to help restore gut lining. These simple additions are helping me rebuild from the inside out.

4. Nervous System Regulation

Gut health isn’t just about food. Chronic stress can damage the gut lining and throw off digestion. I’ve been using breathwork, restorative movement and gentle yoga flows from my platform daily. Even just 10–15 minutes makes a noticeable difference. As Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, a leading gut health expert, says: “Your gut is always listening to your stress.”

5. Walking After Meals

It sounds simple, but going for a gentle walk after eating helps stimulate digestion and reduce bloating. It’s a small habit I’ve built into my day that has become surprisingly powerful. Even a 10-minute stroll after lunch can improve glucose levels and digestion, according to studies published in the Journal of Physiological Anthropology.

Why This Matters for Women Like Us

For busy women, especially in our 30s and above, gut health is often overlooked until something goes wrong. But your gut is the foundation of everything else, from how you train and recover, to your hormones, immunity and energy.
